Looking back at your preliminary task, what would you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full magazine?
My preliminary task compared to my
final product shows a drastic improvement. This means that since I began the
preliminary task, I have continued to discover and learn new technological
skills which I have made sure to apply
within my final product. For example, in
my preliminary task I used to Microsoft PowerPoint to a limited extent; I only
used basic PowerPoint tools and did not
take the opportunity to try out and experiment with other software's or
different tools on PowerPoint, instead I stuck to what I knew as I thought this
would be the easiest route. In addition, I did not use any original images for
my preliminary task; I used pictures of google instead which meant I again
missed out on an opportunity of taking my own photos and developing new skills.
However, in my final product I
aimed to challenge myself and make my magazine as unique as possible. For my
final product I used different software’s such as Photoshop and Instagram as
well as Microsoft PowerPoint. This allowed me to gain an understanding of how
to use different software’s and apply it to my final product. I used Photoshop
and Instagram to improve and enhance my images whilst using PowerPoint to
create my front cover, contents page and double page spread. Moreover, in my
final product I had an opportunity to take original images which was defiantly
the part I enjoyed the most throughout the whole process of producing my
magazine. For my photoshoot I was very prepared and planned out a specific
dress-code for my artist to wear and a particular location to take my photos. I
chose to take my images outdoors in a park because it is bright, sunny and full
of colours from leaves and plants which I thought would be great for my
magazine as I wanted to make it a spring edition. Additionally, in order to
produce my magazine I had to research into the pop genre and look at pop
magazines in order to gain a better understanding of it and its conventions
however, I did find myself challenging the normal convents and also developing
or using them in my own magazine. an example of this would be my target
audience: instead of having a young female target audience for my magazine, I
used an older age range (16-21 year old females) because I thought this would
be more interesting, challenging, creative and unique.
My preliminary task is a school
magazine and was therefore targeted towards a young age group: 11+. As this was
the case, I used primary colours such as blue and red which is appealing to
both young teenage males and females. I also made the contents quite childish
as this would have been appealing to my target audience. On the other hand, for
my final product I chose to challenge typical pop conventions and used a
colours that wasn’t the typical feminine
colours such as pink and purple, instead I used a lot of green, white and black
so that it looks more mature and suits the spring theme. I chose to have an
older target audience because I believe that a lot of pop magazines are
targeted towards young females 11+ when there are also a majority of women
(aged 16-21) who are also into pop but there aren’t any pop magazines targeted
towards their age range therefore, I wanted to challenge myself and create a
pop magazine for an older target audience.
Overall, I put a lot more effort
and time into my final product compared to my preliminary task where I used
little time and didn’t take advantage of all the tools and equipment which I
could have used.
